ASSIGNMENT #1
SEARCHING FOR & CITING AN ARTICLE
FROM AN ELECTRONIC DATABASE

-This assignment can be done from the Learning Commons, Computer Labs, or a home computer connected to the Learning Commons (http://lwtclearningcommons.com/).

-The instructor can predetermine the subject to be searched or it can be left open for the student to decide.

-In this example, a journal article would be an article from a journal, peer-reviewed or scholarly journal, magazine, or trade publication. This excludes newspapers, books, brochures, etc.

1. Use the computers in the Learning Commons or another computer connected to the LWTC Learning Commons (http://lwtclearningcommons.com/) to locate a journal reference which our library carries a full-text version of. Begin with either of these two databases: Proquest or Expanded Academic ASAP.

A) The topic I am searching for is______________________.

B) Describe how you expanded or narrowed the topic in your search? You should be looking for Journal Articles so you will need to find a way to limit your search to only these resources.

C) Locate an article that is available in Full-Text and give the reference for this article (Journal, volume, date, author, and title of article). Use the APA format.

3. Write a few sentences about your experience with these two databases.

Did you find them easy to understand and use?

Did you prefer one over the other? Why?

Explain how you think these resources might be helpful in your academic career.
